The Green Drake

Posted by robbyshobbies on August 27, 2010

About Our Company

Lenoir, North Carolina was where the idea of opening a full service fly shop came to mind. My wife Anne and I knew the area we were in at that time was not the ideal location to support a fly-fishing business so we were patient with our ideas. In February of 2000 I noticed an advertisement in the Orvis newsletter looking to establish a dealer in Winston-Salem, N.C. I quietly researched the idea of a Winston-Salem dealership and five months later The Green Drake opened it’s doors to the fly-fishing community.

My family has purchased Orvis clothing and fly-fishing equipment for as long as I can remember. It has been a perfect fit for Anne and me for many reasons. Winston-Salem is a wonderful town to live in if you are a fly-fishing addict. Mountain streams are a short drive from the city limits and the coast is less than a half-day away. It also allows Anne to be closer to her parents in Raleigh as well as my parents in Laurinburg. We also have an official “greeter”, a boykin spaniel named Maggie. She is behind the counter sleeping on most days.

My history consists of fly-fishing and being outdoors. It has been a way of life for my family and me since I was big enough to hold a fly rod. Our goal since we opened has been to extend that way of life on to our customers. We want to grow as a business and be the source of information and equipment for those who enjoy the outdoors as much as we do.

Anne and I run a family business and when you come into our store we hope that your experience is relaxing and memorable. We thank you for visiting our site and hope that we can be of service to you in the future.

Anne and Stewart Gordon

Founder’s Truth

Posted by robbyshobbies on August 14, 2010

THE AMERICAN DREAM

What makes the ” American Dream” so special? It is because it is an individual dream! Our Founders understood this principle; they knew our rights were not guaranteed from government, far from it! Our Founders declared this boldly in their statement, ” We are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, and among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”

This belief leads them to revolt against a tyrannical government. How suffocating was this government, lets read the words of the “Father of the Constitution” James Madison: ” The people of the U.S. owe their independence and their liberty, to the wisdom of descrying in the minute tax of 3 pence on tea, the magnitude of evil comprised in the precedent. Let them exert the same wisdom, in watching against every evil lurking under plausible disguises, and growing up from small beginnings.”

After God’s giving victory, they set out to form a ” more perfect union ” with the Declaration of Independence as the under girding of the foundation. They gave birth to the world’s first truly Constitutional Representative Republic!  We became a ” nation of laws   not of men”.  We are again under attack in the most insidious way, from within! A soft tyranny of democracy, a benevolent government that will truly control our lives in the womb to beyond the tomb.

I had to ask myself and now all of us, ” do we have the courage and fortitude our Founders had!” They, knowing their Creator was in control of everything, had no fear to risk it all! they mutually pledged their Life , Fortune and sacred Honor. It was not mere words, those 56 men did lose more than we could imagine, but NEVER their sacred Honor!  In not losing their word the gained a NATION! Again, I ask, do we have the courage to put it all on the line for the generations to follow? History books will be written about this time, where are we going to found in that discussion? I say it is our Destiny to be bold, to be strong, to be courageous, it is OUR TIME!

Nell Hunter spent most of her life searching for fulfillment and purpose. Her search ended when she found meaning and purpose through prayer and the study of God’s Word. She prays without ceasing on her journey of life and believes that is where she finds the greatest fulfillment in her life.

She and her husband have two daughters, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She patterns her prayers for them from the treasures she has discovered in God’s Word. She has found that focusing on others and praying for them make her life count for Christ.
